Albet i Noya Brut Cava Organic
£17.99

Albet i Noya Brut Cava Organic

£17.99

Classy sparkler with oodles of flavour and a creamy finish.  This is a mix of Chardonnay with some local grapes and as a consequence it has a bit of additional gravitas. We love its apple crumble-like quality.  Layers of green apple, orange and lime express themselves nicely in the light bubbles.  An Albet i Noya superstar.  75cl.

Item Details:

Alc. 12% by vol.  Low sulphur.  Vegan.  The Can Vedrell estate, home of Albet i Noya, can boast a viticultural heritage stretching back to the middle ages. The Albet family links go back as far as 1903 when they were instrumental in overseeing the replanting of the vineyards after the ravages of Phylloxera. However it was not until the early 1970s that the fourth generation of the family, in the guise of Josep Maria, started the pioneering work on introducing organic viticulture to the estate. The first wines produced from these organically grown grapes were offered to the market in 1978 earning Albet i Noya the position as the first organic wine producer in Spain. During more recent times, the family has acquired outright ownership of the entire estate and have been undertaking a process of continuous renovation of the cellar and fine-tuning of their working practices.

This elegant northern Italian sparkling blend of Organic Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Bianco is subtly perfumed with green apple and lime fruits with the lovely toasty edge that you would expect from a wine that has spent two years being aged on its lees. The bubbles aren't overly effervescent which makes it one of those sparkling wines that you can enjoy as an aperitif as much as with lightly flavoured foods. Immediately fresh, clean and elegant. Lovely balance between the medley of citrus, floral and exotic fruit and the palate-pleasing creamy, nutty texture. Alive, dry, precise and persistent with fine bottle fermented Franciacorta from Pizzini shows off the undoubted class and potential of the region. **A Low Sulphur Wine** 75cl

Suitable for vegans, produced under bio-dynamic conditions. Biodynamic since 1989, Champagne Fleury has always been a trailblazing estate. In 1904 Emile Fleury was the first to plant grafted pinot noir vines in the area post-phylloxera. In 1929 his son Robert took the plunge and decided to make single-vintage champagnes. Subsequently, Jean-Pierre Fleury was the first grower in Champagne to convert to biodynamics. He began with just 3 hectares, then in 1992 the whole estate. The Fleury vineyards are located on chalky slopes on both sides of the Seine valley, 90% planted with pinot noir and the rest with chardonnay.

Champagne Fleury Blanc De Noirs Jeroboam Organic

£166.00

Champagne Fleury Blanc De Noirs Jeroboam Organic - ** SPECIAL ORDER ONLY ** Produced in the Champagne region of France, this delightful vintage is the handiwork of the master biodynamic winemaker Jean-Sébastien Fleury. Thanks to his sustainable wine-growing practices and quality terroir, this is a vintage that deserves a place in any celebration. This organic wine is bold, with strong bready notes and a fine balance and weight. Produced from Pinot Noir grapes, the champagne is both delicate and fruity. You'll love the strong raspberry flavour that comes out of the vintage, with accents of ginger and vanilla to back it up. There are piercing aromatic notes of lemon wax, red fruit, and hazelnut, and a mouth-wateringly perfect balance between acidity and sweetness.  300cl.

Item Details:

Alc. 12% by vol.  Originally founded in 1895, this fine biodynamic Champagne producer was the first to plant grafted Pinot Noir vines in the area post-phylloxera. In 1928 Fleury were the first grower in the Côtes de Bars region (Aube) to produce and bottle their own Champagne and in 1929 it was Robert Fleury who decided to make single-vintage Champagnes. Having taken over the reins of the setate in 1962, it was Jean-Pierre Fleury who became the first grower in Champagne to convert to biodynamics. A avid follower of alternative medicine and a lover of nature he began his quest to convert the entire estate to biodynamic viticulture. He began with just 3 hectares in 1989, then in 1992 the whole estate was converted, becoming the first Champagne producer to do so. Their vineyard holdings now total some 15 hectares. All are certified by Ecocert and accredited to Demeter. Based in Courtheron in the Aube (southern part of Champagne), all Fleury vineyards lie on chalky slopes on both sides of the Seine valley, 85% are planted with Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay and the rest with Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. Soils are very similar to those found in Chablis. All vineyard work is done by hand and the ploughing is done by horse. Instead of chemical treatments, they use composting and natural "teas". Quartz silica is sprayed on the vine leaves in order to reinforce the photosynthesis process. On the soil, preparations that favour the health of microbial life are applied, usually in spring and in autumn, and especially at specific cosmic moments determined by a planetary calendar. ‘The key is soil health’, says Jean-Sébastien. ‘We must keep the earth healthy. The structure of the soil gives back the essence of the terroir’. Three of Jean-Pierre's children now work in the family business: Benoît, tending the vineyards and vines, Jean-Sébastien being responsible for all cellar work and Morgane, a qualified sommelier and consultant, in charge of the marketing and exports. In the cellar, all pressing is carried out using a traditional basket press with each parcel being pressed separately in order to allow more precise blending and, ultimately, complexity in the finished wine. Gravity instead of pumping is preferred in order to move the wine in a more gentle and natural way. Working with native yeasts and malolactic fermentation are also more natural, less-interventionist winemaking choices that are key to the Fleury philosophy. As a further nod to tradition and with the aim of adding more complexity, a  percentage of the base wine is matured in traditional oak barrels.

About the Estate: Giol ~ San Polo di Piave lies in the heart of the green and fertile Treviso countryside. The uniqueness of this corner of the Veneto owes to the fact that San Polo is located in a natural depression, 4 meters below the rest of the surrounding flat lands, a feature that offers plenty of water and rich terrain. The most common crops here are corn, soy beans, beets, and wheat in addition to grapes. The location is truly enviable: San Polo lies just 35 km from magical Venice and 13 km from the rolling hills of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano, famous for their great Sparkling wines and Spumantes.

Item Details:

Alc. 11% by vol.  Contains sulphites.  With a history spanning all the way back to 1427 this venerable old estate in San Polo di Piave is still at the forefront of quality wine production in the Piave region of north east Italy. In fact this is the oldest documented winery in Italy. It was in 1919 that the Giol family first became owners of the estate, which includes a castle, a winery and extensive landholdings comprising woodland and, of course, an expanse of vineyards. As a certified organic, ethical and environmentally friendly winery producing award winning sparkling and still wines exclusively from grapes grown on their historic La Bicana, Il Bassonet, Le Gerette and Spiridiona estates, Giol seeks to combine the highest quality with the greatest respect for the environment. All 25 hectares of vineyards have been farmed using organic methods since 1986.

Grapes are harvested in the coolest hours of the day in order to protect their natural aromas. Soils are alluvial and largely gravelly, with medium texture and good fertility. In summer the climate offers average daytime temperatures of 28-30 degrees while the presence of the hills helps to bring about a thermal temperature variation of up to 18 degrees in the evenings. Wines with natural acidity and freshness are the result. Indeed, Vittorio Carraro prides himself on producing fresh, vibrant and immediately enjoyable wines which are honest, estate grown, certified organic wines made with great respect for the environment and the people who work the land. Giol do not use herbicides, but they enrich soil with organic matter, nitrogen and trace elements. They also use vegetable and mineral fertilizers, in order to avoid groundwater and soil pollution.Manual harvest is carried out at optimum technological ripeness, crushing-destemming, gentle pressing, cold settling and the addition of cultured yeasts allied to controlled fermentation is followed by racking and a light clarification to stabilize the proteins and subsequent careful filtration. Only finings from non-animal derivatives are used, ensuring that all Giol wines are vegan and vegetarian friendly as well as being organic.

A number of Giol wines also contain only a very low level of sulphur ensuring that they possess a more authentic aroma, they are more pleasurable to taste and are easier to digest. These wines are far less likely to cause an allergic or intolerance reaction.

Mont'albano Prosecco Frizzante - Absolutely cracking organic Prosecco from north east Italy. Packed full of upfront lively lemon sherbet flavours with fizz! A great apéritif not only thirst quenching but refreshing.  75cl.

Item Details:

Vegan, Alc.  11% by vol.  Mont’Albano was founded in 1985 in the heart of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, as a result of the intuition of Mauro Braidot who, unlike the majority of the producers of the time, converted his five hectares of vineyard to organic production. Certification followed in 1990, a first for the region. Since that time, the company has extended its reach by working with a number of other organic growers in other regions, buying their grapes, provided they follow the strict viticultural parameters that the organic rules and Mont'Albano requires. The Veneto, Sicily and Abruzzo are key regions in this development. Now, as part of the Sartori group of wine companies their profile has been raised still further. The flagship wines remain the prestigious Friuli wines that are produced from the fruit of their own vines. For Mont'Albano, organic viticulture is not a return to the past, it is innovation that combines today’s technology with the experience of the winegrower who wants to preserve and not exploit the land, using only natural, not chemical, products. The health of the wine in the glass is guaranteed by means of complete traceability throughout the supply chain and the absence of any chemical residues. Cultivating the land with respect, working in harmony with nature and safeguarding the natural environment are key elements of the Mont'Albano organic philosophy. Not accepting compromises to quality is paramount.
