Description
A member of the Corylus tree family containing also Cob-nuts & Filberts. Haesil was an Anglo-Saxon word for head-dress (deriving from the fringed, green hat-like husk sustaining the growing nut). Popular for the rich, mellow flavour, ground and chopped hazels can be used in nut roasts and rissoles, and sweetened for use in cakes and pastries.
